Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that the land of Leelanau County occupies the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary Lands of the Anishinaabeg - the Three Fires Confederacy of the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi people’s, who have been working and living on this land since time immemorial.
Leelanau County occupies lands ceded and taken in the 1855 treaty and subsequent land grab.
We give thanks to the care with which the Anishinaabeg people, and those of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, have and continue to give to this land.
